Art must be beautiful in the objective sense, though it does not have to be "pretty". It is not genre or craft-specific, in other words, it is not limited to painting, or writing, or sculpture, but can be realized in any craft in which man acts on his enviornment.

Obviously, all people are called to bring forth Beauty from their lives, but this is not the call to create Art in the specific sense, and I'm leaving off this aspect for the sake of clarity. (at least, in hopes of clarity).

What fails at Beauty, at a connection with Truth and Goodness at some level, fails to be Art. Which doesn't invalidate it entirely, but puts it in another catagory.

This is a bit rushed a response, I hope it conveys well enough for understanding.

Blessings.Mashahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06943998810222103926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550058566159443898.post-10750108834640647842011-06-17T11:11:39.028-04:002011-06-17T11:11:39.028-04:00Wonderful, fascinating, and insightful post, Masha...Wonderful, fascinating, and insightful post, Masha, as always! Though I do think you've mistaken my remarks on Plato, which may provide us with a hearty disagreement if you're keen! :)

Now, I may have missed it or misplaced it amid what's been quite a hectic week for me, but I do need to ask--what, precisely, is your definition of the term 'Art'? I do see the disagreement between you and Jenna as real, despite attempting to agree with both of you, and as primarily semantic. And, to be fair, I think your terminology seems to be more precise and nuanced. So I'm just curious what definition you're using?Mr Pondhttp://mrpond47.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
