Phony fortune-tellers can be the funnest people in a story...is it wrong that my primary reason for wanting to go to one of those [FORTUNE...TELLER: $10] shops is to harass the reader with judgmental questions?? ;)Mashahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06943998810222103926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550058566159443898.post-10754445318268476782014-01-06T14:41:12.277-05:002014-01-06T14:41:12.277-05:00I KNOW! It kind of makes her more likeable too..I can see her stressing and practicing up in her tower - lonely and too sure of mockery to venture down into the rest of the castle..

Death images in Divination usually relate more to unalterable and deep change..'a sudden break'..the workings of fate.. and not to death itself, so much (though it does happen), because Death is one of those things - like Salvation - that can't be known...it doesn't stop careless fortune-tellers like Trelawney from predicting death (it really adds that dramatic flair, doesn't it!) but it's not responsible, for the most part, because it's something even the most attune can easily mistake..

Mashahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06943998810222103926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550058566159443898.post-78406313659306938322013-12-21T10:27:41.235-05:002013-12-21T10:27:41.235-05:00Oh no! Mo...Oh no! I don't want any of those kisses D:

Most of my thoughts on how divination works in the books are SPOILERS at this point, but it's interesting and kind of funny that Wizarding World fortune-tellers appear to operate exactly like Muggle fortunetellers 99.9% of the time -- unlike, say, Wizard transfigurationists, who can literally change matter into different kinds of matter as part of their skill set. I share Hermione's skepticism, let's just say.Lauranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550058566159443898.post-77514492585698123972013-12-19T15:04:15.039-05:002013-12-19T15:04:15.039-05:00Love this post!! And got a laugh out of the dementor meme. :D

Interesting that Trelawney, like Hagrid, started off with something too advanced for her class, if for totally different reasons.

Death images in Divination rarely relate to actual death? Now I'm curious.

She needs comforting..or at least a couple beers (oh, wait, she's 13..just one then!)

HAHAHAHA!

Flakes of all types love divination - until you tell them the cute-guy-from-Whole-Foods won't actually be marrying them in the next few months - and Hermione or McGonagall types loathe it..even when it's dead on.

I guess I must be in the middle... I'm much too afraid of finding out that something bad is coming to be either a) tempted to try divination, or b) completely rational and blase about it. :PJenna St. Hilairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04474588706124865006noreply@blogger.com
