I actually came from an obsession with Slavic gypsies and the exciting discovery that some of my mother's people were probably part of the tribe.Mashahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06943998810222103926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550058566159443898.post-70919417409616664102012-01-08T18:43:33.681-05:002012-01-08T18:43:33.681-05:00Masha--did your phase of wanting black hair and a ...Masha--did your phase of wanting black hair and a long, consonant-vowel rich name correspond with a manga-reading, Japanese-culture-mad phase, perchance? ;)Mr Pondhttp://mrpond47.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550058566159443898.post-31966151495848289612012-01-08T09:31:10.948-05:002012-01-08T09:31:10.948-05:00I've never fully understood the K-preference f...I've never fully understood the K-preference for Katherine, being a C-partisan myself. I think as a child I read K as bony and "modern" and C as fleshy and "classic" or something like that. I like my name, though I don't identify with it very strongly. I don't mentally address myself as "Laura" the way people in books do ("All right, Laura, if you're going to destroy this alien, you're going to have to use your head.") I've always wanted the option of multiple pseudonyms, but I doubt I could pick a single name for myself any more than I could pick a tattoo.

Hey, I wanted black hair, too!Lauranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550058566159443898.post-35635332989557965122012-01-08T02:08:57.410-05:002012-01-08T02:08:57.410-05:00I like your name, too. I still have a weakness for nearly all forms of Katherine spelt with a K, common as they are.

Then I wanted to be Sara. But my book club, at one point, had three Sarahs out of nine people, and a fourth would've just been insane.

I actually didn't start off as Jenna--it's Jennifer technically, and everyone called me Jenni until fifth grade (one of my few public school years), when there were three Jennys in my class. My family knew another Jenna, and that gave us the idea. I never really cared much for it until my very early twenties, when I tried to switch back. It didn't work. At that point, I decided that for better or for worse, Jenna suited me. :)Jenna St. Hilairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04474588706124865006noreply@blogger.com
